Halima Gikandi

Senior Communications Manager

Halima Gikandi is Senior Communications Manager at The Harry Frank Guggenheim
Foundation. In this role, she oversees the Foundation’s communications and outreach efforts to
key external audiences.
 
Prior to joining the Foundation, Ms. Gikandi served as a foreign correspondent for the public
radio program The World. Based in East Africa, she reported on the war in Northern Ethiopia,
Sudan’s democratic transition, drought and conflict in Somalia, terrorism in Kenya, and several
elections across the African continent. Her work has also been featured in The Guardian, the
BBC, and other media outlets. 
 
Since leaving the newsroom, Ms. Gikandi has served as a communications advisor to nonprofit
organizations. Ms. Gikandi received her B.A. in history from Columbia University.
