While the primary purpose of the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation
is to support scientific and scholarly research on violence,
aggression, and dominance, we also believe that we have a
responsibility to inform the public of the findings of sponsored
research and to discuss how that knowledge relates to problems
of society today. This and subsequent issues of the HFG Review
will present examples of productive thinking on particular
topics by our grantees and others. This issue focuses on political
violence: where and why it is happening and what to do, and
not to do, in response. We hope these commentaries will inform
readers interested in current global developments and scholarly
thinking and point in practical directions for future research
and current policy actions. Each issue will also contain bibliographical
material and a list of scholars studying the subject matter
under our auspices, which should enable interested readers
to explore the subject further on their own.
